Welcome to the Crew, Andrew MacDonald

Some people enjoy spending time outdoors. Others decide to dedicate their work to helping others experience those same places.

That’s what led Andrew MacDonald to the Cumberland Trail Conservancy.

Originally from Plant City, Florida, Andrew joined the Trail Crew because he wanted his work to have a direct impact on the outdoor experiences people enjoy every day.

“I enjoy being outdoors and wanted to do something that lets other people also enjoy being outside,” Andrew said.

As he gets started with the Trail Crew, Andrew is especially interested in learning what separates an average trail from a great one. From drainage and tread design to long-term sustainability, he’s eager to understand the skills and techniques that help trails remain safe, enjoyable, and resilient for years to come.

For visitors hiking the Cumberland Trail, those details often go unnoticed. But behind every well-built trail is careful planning and hard work, and Andrew is excited to be part of that process.

When he’s not on the trail, Andrew enjoys spending time with his dog, reading, listening to audiobooks, and kayaking.

By joining the Trail Crew, Andrew is helping create and maintain places where people can disconnect from daily routines, explore the natural world, and make lasting memories outdoors.

We’re excited to have Andrew on the team and look forward to watching him grow as a trail builder and steward of the Cumberland Trail.
