Overview

Beginning at Tri‑State Peak—the northern terminus of the Cumberland Trail—this route is accessed via connecting trails in Kentucky and climbs steadily through mixed hardwood forest, passing historic features and offering mountain views near the summit.

Trailheads

There is no direct trailhead at the northern terminus. The Cumberland Trail begins at Tri‑State Peak, which is reached via connecting trails in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

The most accessible routes begin from the Iron Furnace or Thomas Walker parking areas, following established trails to the Ridge Trail and on to Tri‑State Peak. This approach requires a moderate hike to reach the start of the Cumberland Trail.
